This is Children’s Mental Health Week. Did you hear about it in the news? I was shocked to discover that 1 in 6 children between the ages of 5 and 16 had a probable mental health disorder.

This statistic is from The Mental Health of Children and Young People in England 2020 Report which was published in the Autumn. Three years earlier the figure was 1 in 9 children. It’s not surprising that this number has gone up during the pandemic, it has put a huge strain on everyone.

The children in this report talked about family tensions, feeling isolated, fear about the virus, financial concerns, and worries about the future. A quarter of the children reported disrupted sleep, and 1 in 10 often or always felt lonely.

These are heartbreaking statistics. It is essential that professional help and services are available, and there is an urgent necessity for government to put children’s needs at the forefront of their planning.

“We owe our children, the most vulnerable citizens in our society, a life free of violence and fear.”

NELSON MANDELA

Homeopathy can play a very supportive role. It has a long history of treating children and their mental health. It has wonderful remedies for all the emotional ailments that children experience, many of which the pandemic has highlighted and made more extreme. There are remedies for anxiety, sleep issues including night terrors, obsessive compulsive disorders, lack of confidence, depression, and anger.

What I and fellow homeopaths aim to achieve is the removal of the immediate distress of these issues. Homeopathy can then return children to a more balanced state, where emotions are in a manageable perspective.

REMEDY OF THE MONTH: PHOSPHORUS
Children who need this remedy may be suffering particularly during lockdowns, as they tend to be extroverted and love to be with their friends. They can be very sensitive and impressionable and may have many fears of things like the dark, ghosts, thunderstorms, and dogs. Physically, they often have chest infections, nosebleeds, sore throats and growing pains.

If any of this resonates with you, please do get in touch. I offer a free 20 minute discovery call for you to chat and find out if homeopathy can help you or your child.
